Our vision is to make the Festival da Cultura Portuguesa a premier Portuguese festival, geared towards Luso –American families with participation from Portuguese social and community organizations. We will strive to make a difference in the community by increasing pride in traditions, exposing the community to up and coming Portuguese musical talent, teaching the youth about Portuguese Folklore, heritage, recreation, and overall goodwill among-st the community.
The Festival da Cultura Portuguesa was founded in 2019, when VIAPAL president, Palmira Oliveira, approached the presidents of the Portuguese Club of Long Branch, the South River Portuguese Club, Portuguese Instructive Social Club of Elizabeth, the Portuguese Sporting Club of Perth Amboy, Sport Club Portugues of Newark, and the Portuguese Cultural Association of Kearny to join forces in developing a daylong event that not only highlighted the best of the Portuguese Community but also fund-raise for two great causes. The first goal being, creating and presenting a Portuguese descendant, high school senior, that meets the criteria, a scholarship and the second, to donate as a group to a charity organization.
Each year, a partnership will be formed with a non-profit group to raise money for a cause. The focus of the cause will rotate between a local and global cause. Portions of the profits will be donated towards a scholarship for a high school senior, of Portuguese descent, attending a 4 year institution that meets the criteria.
